MEETING FOR GLENN BACK 9-12 PIKES PEAK PATRIOTS

Richard,

I would like to thank you for taking time to talk to me this morning. I enjoyed our conversation. And not to suck up, but I do enjoy your show when I get the chance to listen to it. There are not a lot of radio talk people I can really get into, Glenn is about the only one I really put in an effort to hear. However I’ve liked your show and I do find myself wanting to turn it on.

As I told you on the phone, I’m with The 9-12 Pikes Peak Patriots and we just want to get the people of Colorado motivated to get back our influence in government. We have been working hard to get everything squared away for our rally in Colorado Springs. We appreciate any help you might be able give us in promoting it.

We are calling this rally The Re-Declaration of Independence Day. We will return to Acacia Park on May 30th and plan for the music and speakers to start at 1:30 P.M. Our goal is to remind The People that we are in charge, that we have say, and that we would each sign The Declaration of Independence today, if given the chance. We will have our own Declaration for anyone who attends to sign. It will then be taken to Washington D.C. on July 4th to add our names to The March for Liberty. I would be happy to send you a copy of our Re-Declaration of Independence so you can read it and get a better idea of what we are doing. It is also posted on our website-

http://www.freeandunited.com/ReDeclarationofIndependenceDay.aspx

This link will take you directly to our splash page for the event.

We will have speakers from our own group, CCM, Tea Party someone speaking on the Constitution, a local business man, and music provided by a local country singer. I think it will be a great time for anyone who attends. Also we enjoy the idea of being responsible for helping our neighbors, so we again ask that people bring non-perishable food for Care and Share.

We want to take this opportunity to tell Washington, and each other, that we will not stop our fight to keep this a great and free nation. We hope to keep the momentum going from the last Tea Party to the next one. We must continue to meet in the cities, in the parks and in the streets lest we be forgotten and ignored.

Thank you so much for helping us to get the word out and taking time in your show to talk about it. As we all work together we can take things back to where they belong.

LOCAL DESIGNER OF POW-MIA FLAG DIES

Everyone has told me that Newt was a great and generous man. There are plans for a small memorial to him next month. I'll keep you posted. Here is an obit from the L.A. Times.

Newt Heisley, a commercial artist who designed the Vietnam-era POW/MIA flag that came to symbolize the nation's concern for military personnel missing or held prisoner in modern conflicts, has died. He was 88.

Heisley, who was a World War II pilot, died Thursday at his home in Colorado Springs, Colo., after years of failing health, said Jim Heisley, one of his two sons.

In 1971, Heisley was a graphic designer for a New Jersey advertising agency when he sketched the stark black-and-white images at the center of the flag -- the silhouette of a man with head bowed, a guard tower and a strand of barbed wire -- and the words "You Are Not Forgotten."

His client was Annin & Co., a major flag manufacturer that had been commissioned by the wife of a soldier missing in action. She had recognized the need for a symbol to represent the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia.

"It was intended for a small group. . . . No one realized it was going to get national attention," Heisley said in 1997 in the Colorado Springs Gazette.

The flag emblazoned with POW/MIA first flew over the White House in 1988. It was installed in 1989 in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda and is on permanent display.

In 1990, Congress adopted the flag as "the symbol of our nation's concern" for those missing and unaccounted for during U.S. military action in Southeast Asia.

Congress later mandated that the flag be flown at federal buildings and military installations six days a year, including Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.

The flag's popularity has expanded more quickly than any other during the last 50 years, said Edward Mooney Jr., a flag expert and author in Palmdale.

To veterans organizations, the design has come to represent all U.S. troops missing in military conflicts dating to World War II.

The words that Heisley stretched across the bottom of the flag -- "You Are Not Forgotten" -- were inspired by his acute memories of piloting transport planes on long flights across the South Pacific during World War II.

While flying, he thought about "being taken prisoner and being . . . forgotten," he said in the 2002 book "Faith Under Fire." As he worked on flag sketches, "that experience came back to me, and I wrote down the phrase 'You are not forgotten.' "

The model for the captured soldier was his son Jeffrey, then 24, who had just returned from Marine training gaunt and sick with hepatitis.

While Heisley was "extremely, extremely proud" of designing the flag, he was embarrassed by the attention that came with it, said his son Jim.

"I didn't do it for personal gain or acclaim," Heisley told the Denver Post in 2002. "I did it for the men who were prisoners of war or missing in action. They're the real heroes."

Newton Foust Heisley was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Williamsport, Pa. His mother died when he was 4 months old, and he spent much of his childhood with grandparents.

At Syracuse University, he earned a degree in fine arts and met his future wife.

After graduating in the early 1940s, he was a graphic artist for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and then enlisted in the Army Air Forces.

After the war, he spent 25 years at advertising agencies in New York City and New Jersey. Tiring of the big-city commute, he drove west with his wife, Bunny, looking for "greener pastures," said his son Jim.

"They pulled into Colorado Springs in the middle of the night. The next morning, he saw the view and said, 'Bunny, we're not going any further. This is it,' " his son recalled.

After moving to the town in 1972, Heisley opened an advertising agency with Jim. One of their projects was designing a pin for the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics.

When Heisley retired in 1987, he rediscovered fine art, painting a Pawnee Indian chief and a scene from "Madame Butterfly," a favorite opera of his wife. Bunny died in 2005 at 84.

On smaller canvases -- his lapel, hat and license-plate frame -- Heisley showcased the POW/MIA image whose popularity, he once said, had gone beyond his "wildest dream."

In addition to his sons, Heisley is survived by his fiancee, Donna Allison, whom he had planned to marry Friday; a sister, Patricia Freshney; and a granddaughter.

LAMBORN STATEMENT ON SUPREME COURT NOMINEE

Lamborn Statement on Supreme Court Nominee Sonia Sotomayor

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) issued the following statement on the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to be an Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.

“I congratulate Judge Sotomayor on her nomination and I look forward to a confirmation process that focuses on determining whether Judge Sotomayor is qualified to serve on the Supreme Court. Qualifications for judicial service include not only experience and character but, most importantly, a proper understanding of the power and role of judges in our system of government. Judges must decide cases based on the law, not on their personal views or opinions.

“However, I am concerned with her record of putting identity politics before the rule of law. It raises serious issues about her ability to reach fair and impartial decisions. Judge Sotomayor has made a habit of embracing extreme views during her time on the lower courts. Now, as she is considered for the high court, Americans are left to wonder if she will exercise basic standards of objectivity. In light of Judge Sotomayor’s liberal activist approach to judicial interpretation, I call on my colleagues in the Senate to thoroughly examine her record as they consider her nomination.”--Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

CONSERVATIVES PLAN MEETING

May 21, 2009

Coalition for a Conservative Majority is proud to host a special forum:

“GOVERNOR RITTER’S NEW ENERGY ECONOMY…

CAN COLORADO AFFORD IT?”

What:
As part of our ongoing effort to educate the public about relevant political issues and events, the CCM-COS June Progress & Strategy meeting will host an expert panel discussion on Governor Ritter’s new energy policies and their serious impacts on Coloradans.

The expert panel of economists and engineers will expose the true cost of Governor Ritter’s energy policies, discuss how to move forward with energy independence the right way, and share what every Coloradan can do to hold Governor Ritter accountable. These practitioners in the energy field will bring a new perspective to Colorado’s energy potential.

Why:
Colorado Governor Ritter is attempting to shut down our current energy production to force wind, solar, and other energy alternatives on Coloradans. This is causing massive layoffs in the energy field and increased prices of our current energy sources.

Who:
Those who attend will learn how to take practical, yet effective action to hold Governor Ritter accountable for his energy policies.

LATEST ON HATE CRIMES - FROM CCM

The Hate Crimes Bill (S909) has passed the US House and is scheduled for debate in the US Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. If you haven’t yet contacted these Senators, now is the time to do so. Please act and pass this email to all concerned Americans you know across the nation. Even if you haven’t yet contacted the Senators yourself, it’s critical that we spread the word now… let’s make our voices heard and stop this infringement on free speech and thought.

*** The contact list below is updated to simplify contacting them via the internet. The listed links go directly to each Senator’s online contact page. Hopefully this helps until we can locate actual email addresses. ***

Some summary information, compiled from Janet Porter of WorldNet Daily:

- This is bill S. 909, the so-called “Hate Crimes” bill.

- It criminalizes speech against groups already identified.

- It adds sexual orientation to the list.

- Pastors could be charged with inciting a hate crime for sermon content.

- Individuals could be charged with inciting a hate crime for resisting the actions or advances of a homosexual/lesbian.

- It would criminalize Christianity by turning those who disagree with homosexual agenda into felons.

- It would elevate pedophiles as a special protected class, since the term “sexual orientation” includes them in the American Psychiatric Association’s definition of various sexual orientations.

- Denies freedom of speech and constitutes thought control as we’re denied the right to express opinions without risking fines or arrest.

- Would deny us 14th Amendment right of equal protection under the law.

- Would identify a special “preferred” class of victim with more rights than the average citizen would have as victim of similar crime.

- Federal funds would be proffered to local law enforcement encouraging them to prosecute crimes against this preferred class.

Here is a brief news video explaining the need to contact the Senate Judiciary Committee today: http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?rn=3906861&cl=13335492&ch=4226716&src=news

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO STOP THIS?

Dear Senator:

I am urging you to vote NO on S 909, the Hate Crimes Legislation bill. This bill is problematic for many reasons:

(1) It is unconstitutional. The 14th Amendment requires that all citizens be given equal treatment under the law. Hate crimes laws create special classes of victims and do not treat all victims fairly.

(2) It could ultimately lead to prosecution for thoughts and restrictions on free speech and religious liberty. Although it prosecutes only “acts of violence” and does not prosecute expressions or opinions, it opens the door to examining the thoughts of not only a criminal, but everyone with whom he may have come into contact. An overzealous prosecutor could turn a criminal prosecution into a political correctness prosecution. Broadly written hate crimes bills in other states and countries have been used to restrict the freedom of politically incorrect and unpopular speech. This bill could be used to advance the politically correct agenda in this country by providing greater protections for certain classes of people. Future legislation could expand these protections and place restrictions on religious liberty and free speech.

(3) It is unnecessary. Recent FBI statistics show that crimes motivated by hatred or bias against a trait of the victim are decreasing. Furthermore, many states already have a hate crimes law and there is no evidence that the states are failing to prosecute hate crimes. States which do not have hate crimes laws still prosecute the crimes under existing criminal laws. A federal bill hate crimes bill would only increase the control and scope of the federal government.

Vote NO on S 909.

Sincerely,

OBAMA IS NOT FUNNY

Saddened. Really. The President's trash talk at the White House Correspondent's Dinner should offend every American, Republican, Democrat, white, black, hispanic, religious, or otherwise. I will put the video up a little later. Here is a transcipt. Please note which comments you feel are beneath the president. There was much in poor taste, such as the plane over New York... but I simply can't believe he said this in front of cameras in a room full of ladies.

Richard

Now, speaking -- when I think about children obviously I think about Michelle and it reminds me that tomorrow is Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers in the audience. (Applause.) I do have to say, though, that this is a tough holiday for Rahm Emanuel because he's not used to saying the word "day" after "mother." (Laughter.) That's true. (Laughter.)

For Immediate Release May 10, 2009

REMARKS BY THE PRESIDENT
AT WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS' ASSOCIATION DINNER

May 9, 2009

Washington Hilton
Washington, D.C.

9:56 P.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you. Thank you, everybody. Good evening. You know, I had an entire speech prepared for this wonderful occasion, but now that I'm here I think I'm going to try something a little different. Tonight I want to speak from the heart. I'm going to speak off the cuff. (Teleprompters rise.) (Laughter and applause.)

Good evening. (Laughter.) Pause for laughter. (Laughter.) Wait a minute, this may not be working as well as I -- (laughter.) Let me try that again.

Good evening, everybody. (Applause.) I would like to welcome you all to the 10-day anniversary of my first 100 days. (Laughter.) I am Barack Obama. Most of you covered me. All of you voted for me. (Laughter and applause.) Apologies to the Fox table. (Laughter.) They're -- where are they? I have to confess I really did not want to be here tonight, but I knew I had to come -- just one more problem that I've inherited from George W. Bush. (Laughter.)

But now that I'm here, it's great to be here. It's great to see all of you. Michelle Obama is here, the First Lady of the United States. (Applause.) Hasn't she been an outstanding First Lady? (Applause.) She's even begun to bridge the differences that have divided us for so long, because no matter which party you belong to we can all agree that Michelle has the right to bare arms. (Laughter and applause.)

Now Sasha and Malia aren't here tonight because they're grounded. You can't just take Air Force One on a joy ride to Manhattan. (Laughter.) I don't care whose kids you are. (Laughter.) We've been setting some ground rules here. They're starting to get a little carried away.

(Laughter.)

David Axelrod is here. You know, David and I have been together for a long time. I can still remember -- I got to sort of -- I tear up a little bit when I think back to that day that I called Ax so many years ago and said, you and I can do wonderful things together. And he said to me the same thing that partners all across America are saying to one another right now: Let's go to Iowa and make it official. (Laughter and applause.)

Michael Steele is in the house tonight. (Applause.) Or as he would say, "in the heezy." (Laughter.) What's up? (Laughter.) Where is Michael? Michael, for the last time, the Republican Party does not qualify for a bailout. (Laughter.) Rush Limbaugh does not count as a troubled asset, I'm sorry. (Laughter.)

Dick Cheney was supposed to be here but he is very busy working on his memoirs, tentatively titled, "How to Shoot Friends and Interrogate People." (Laughter.)

You know, it's been a whirlwind of activity these first hundred days. We've enacted a major economic recovery package, we passed a budget, we forged a new path in Iraq, and no President in history has ever named three Commerce Secretaries this quickly. (Laughter.) Which reminds me, if Judd Gregg is here, your business cards are ready now. (Laughter.)

On top of that, I've also reversed the ban on stem cell research, signed an expansion -- (applause) -- signed an expansion of the children's health insurance. Just last week, Car and Driver named me auto executive of the year. (Laughter.) Something I'm very proud of.

We've also begun to change the culture in Washington. We've even made the White House a place where people can learn and can grow. Just recently, Larry Summers asked if he could chair the White House Council on Women and Girls. (Laughter.) And I do appreciate that Larry is here tonight because it is seven hours past his bedtime. (Laughter.) Gibbs liked that one. (Laughter.)

In the last hundred days, we've also grown the Democratic Party by infusing it with new energy and bringing in fresh, young faces like Arlen Specter. (Laughter.) Now, Joe Biden rightly deserves a lot of credit for convincing Arlen to make the switch, but Secretary Clinton actually had a lot to do with it too. One day she just pulled him aside and she said, Arlen, you know what I always say -- "if you can't beat them, join them." (Laughter.)

Which brings me to another thing that's changed in this new, warmer, fuzzier White House, and that's my relationship with Hillary. You know, we had been rivals during the campaign, but these days we could not be closer. In fact, the second she got back from Mexico she pulled into a hug and gave me a big kiss. (Laughter.) Told me I'd better get down there myself. (Laughter.) Which I really appreciated. I mean, it was -- it was nice. (Laughter.)

And of course we've also begun to change America's image in the world. We talked about this during this campaign and we're starting to execute. We've renewed alliances with important partners and friends. If you look on the screen there, there I am with Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso. There I am with Gordon Brown.

But as I said during the campaign, we can't just talk to our friends. As hard as it is, we also have to talk to our enemies, and I've begun to do exactly that. Take a look at the monitor there. (Laughter.) Now, let me be clear, just because he handed me a copy of Peter Pan does not mean that I'm going to read it -- (laughter) -- but it's good diplomatic practice to just accept these gifts.

All this change hasn't been easy. Change never is. So I've cut the tension by bringing a new friend to the White House. He's warm, he's cuddly, loyal, enthusiastic. You just have to keep him on a tight leash. Every once in a while he goes charging off in the wrong direction and gets himself into trouble. But enough about Joe Biden. (Laughter.)

All in all, we're proud of the change we've brought to Washington in these first hundred days but we've got a lot of work left to do, as all of you know. So I'd like to talk a little bit about what my administration plans to achieve in the next hundred days.

During the second hundred days, we will design, build and open a library dedicated to my first hundred days. (Laughter.) It's going to be big, folks. (Laughter.) In the next hundred days, I will learn to go off the prompter and Joe Biden will learn to stay on the prompter. (Laughter.)

In the next hundred days, our bipartisan outreach will be so successful that even John Boehner will consider becoming a Democrat. After all, we have a lot in common. He is a person of color. (Laughter.) Although not a color that appears in the natural world. (Laughter.) What's up, John? (Laughter.)

In the next hundred days, I will meet with a leader who rules over millions with an iron fist, who owns the airwaves and uses his power to crush all who would challenge his authority at the ballot box. It's good to see you, Mayor Bloomberg. (Laughter.)

In the next hundred days, we will housetrain our dog, Bo, because the last thing Tim Geithner needs is someone else treating him like a fire hydrant. (Laughter.) In the next hundred days, I will strongly consider losing my cool. (Laughter.)

Finally, I believe that my next hundred days will be so successful I will be able to complete them in 72 days. (Laughter.) And on the 73rd day, I will rest. (Laughter.)

I just -- I want to end by saying a few words about the men and women in this room whose job it is to inform the public and pursue the truth. You know, we meet tonight at a moment of extraordinary challenge for this nation and for the world, but it's also a time of real hardship for the field of journalism. And like so many other businesses in this global age, you've seen sweeping changes and technology and communications that lead to a sense of uncertainty and anxiety about what the future will hold.
Across the country, there are extraordinary, hardworking journalists who have lost their jobs in recent days, recent weeks, recent months. And I know that each newspaper and media outlet is wrestling with how to respond to these changes, and some are struggling simply to stay open. And it won't be easy. Not every ending will be a happy one.

But it's also true that your ultimate success as an industry is essential to the success of our democracy. It's what makes this thing work. You know, Thomas Jefferson once said that if he had the choice between a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, he would not hesitate to choose the latter.

Clearly, Thomas Jefferson never had cable news to contend with -- (laughter) -- but his central point remains: A government without newspapers, a government without a tough and vibrant media of all sorts, is not an option for the United States of America. (Applause.)

So I may not -- I may not agree with everything you write or report. I may even complain, or more likely Gibbs will complain, from time to time about how you do your jobs, but I do so with the knowledge that when you are at your best, then you help me be at my best. You help all of us who serve at the pleasure of the American people do our jobs better by holding us accountable, by demanding honesty, by preventing us from taking shortcuts and falling into easy political games that people are so desperately weary of.

And that kind of reporting is worth preserving -- not just for your sake, but for the public's. We count on you to help us make sense of a complex world and tell the stories of our lives the way they happen, and we look for you for truth, even if it's always an approximation, even if -- (laughter.)

This is a season of renewal and reinvention. That is what government must learn to do, that's what businesses must learn to do, and that's what journalism is in the process of doing. And when I look out at this room and think about the dedicated men and women whose questions I've answered over the last few years, I know that for all the challenges this industry faces, it's not short on talent or creativity or passion or commitment. It's not short of young people who are eager to break news or the not-so-young who still manage to ask the tough ones time and time again. These qualities alone will not solve all your problems, but they certainly prove that the problems are worth solving. And that is a good place as any to begin.

So I offer you my thanks, I offer you my support, and I look forward to working with you and answering to you and the American people as we seek a more perfect union in the months and years ahead.

Thank you very much, everybody. Thank you. (Applause.)

HATE CRIMES LEGISLATION

Here is some information from the Coalition For A Conservative Majority.

Richard

The Hate Crimes Bill (S909) has passed the US House and is on its way to the Senate now. Time is of the essence with this bill. Please act and pass this email to all concerned Americans you know across the nation…. let’s make our voices heard and stop this infringement on free speech and thought. Some summary information:

Senate bill S. 909- the so called “Hate Crimes” bill. This bill criminalizes speech against groups already identified and adds sexual orientation to the list. To quote Janet Porter in World Net Daily: “When combined with existing law, this bill could have a very chilling effect on free speech. A pastor could be charged with inciting a hate crime for the content of his sermon. An individual could be charged with one for simply resisting the actions or advances of a homosexual or lesbian.” She continues in that article: “I've written extensively about how this bill would criminalize Christianity and turn those who disagree with the homosexual agenda into felons, but criminalizing Christianity is just the beginning of what this bill would do. It would also elevate pedophiles as a special protected class – since the term "sexual orientation," which has been added to the "hate crimes" legislation, includes them in the American Psychiatric Association's definition of various "sexual orientations" “

S 909 denies freedom of speech and constitutes thought control as we are denied the right to express our opinions without risking fines or arrest. The law would deny us our 14th Amendment right of equal protection under law as it would identify a special “preferred” class of victim with more rights than the average citizen would have as victim of a similar crime. Federal funds would be proffered to local law enforcement encouraging them to prosecute crimes against this preferred class over the average citizen.

While the bill doesn’t actually mention the term “pedophile”, part of the danger of the bill is that it seems to make those who are pedophiles become part of a protected class covered under the terms "sexual orientation" and "gender identity."

Sincerely,

PLANS FOR NEXT TEA PARTY

CONSERVATIVE GRASSROOTS HOSTS PROGRESS & STRATEGY MEETING

Meeting is part of community-wide effort to rally and mobilize conservatives to action and free Colorado and America from liberal agenda

What:
The Coalition for a Conservative Majority, Colorado Springs chapter, (CCM) serves as a central organizing hub and voice for all conservative individuals and organizations. CCM is a true local grassroots coalition comprised of "we the people."

We rally, recruit, educate, organize, and mobilize the Pikes Peak area to empower all conservative individuals and organizations to unite against the liberal regime and re-establish responsibility in government. CCM works with other conservative single- and multi-issue organizations to raise awareness and plan action against current and future liberal agendas at all levels of government.

Why:
The current governing majorities in both the Colorado Legislature and United States
Congress are working to gain complete control of the lives and fortunes of all Americans. This is resulting in broad, sweeping degradation of our freedoms. These freedoms were dearly bought by millions over the history of this Republic. It is our intent to regain those freedoms.

Who:
The Colorado Springs chapter of the Coalition for a Conservative Majority is a group of conservatives, independents, and others who are disillusioned with the “change” in our government. The group is dedicated to returning common sense and conservative values to Colorado and America.
