BEER & POLICE REPORT

So you call someone stupid, say they are racist, and trash their reputation... but it's all OK if you buy him a beer.

HEALTHCARE PROTEST

Great event and turnout today. It just shows how many people really love this country and are concerned about the direction it is headed in. Congrats to Jeff and all of the people who worked so hard to make the event happen and all of those who came. My hand is sore and my throat too but it was a real pleasure to meet so many listeners and be able to put a face to the voice. I am honored and humbled. Thanks to Eva Coco and Mary Coran for sending the photos.

SCOTT McINNIS FOR GOVERNOR ON THURSDAY

ON THURSDAY FORMER CONGRESSMAN SCOTT McINNIS WILL JOIN ME TO TALK ABOUT HIS RACE FOR COLORADO GOVERNOR.

HERE IS HIS BIO TAKEN FROM HIS OWN WEBSITE: http://mcinnisforcolorado.com

Scott McInnis is an experienced Colorado businessman, public servant and candidate for Governor of Colorado.

A fourth-generation Colorado native, Scott was born and raised in Glenwood Springs and graduated from Glenwood Springs High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Fort Lewis College in Durango. After serving as a police officer and volunteer firefighter, McInnis earned his law degree from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, before returning to Glenwood Springs to practice law.

At the urging of local business leaders, Scott ran for and was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives. During his five terms, he rose through the ranks due to his reputation as a common-sense leader who reached across the political aisle to achieve positive results for Colorado. He became House Majority Leader before leaving the House to serve in the U.S. Congress from Colorado’s Third Congressional District.

While in Congress, Scott championed the cause of preserving some of Colorado's most scenic places, leading the charge to create two new National Parks: the Great Sand Dunes and Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Parks. He shepherded three important wilderness bills through Congress that were signed by the President. In describing his accomplished environmental record, the Denver Post called McInnis a "strong conservationist carrying on a GOP tradition that hearkens back to Teddy Roosevelt."

While serving on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, Scott was an outspoken advocate for reducing the size and scope of government – and an aggressive foe of tax increases on American families and businesses. This strong record of fiscal responsibility earned him awards and praise from numerous taxpayer advocacy and anti-deficit groups over the years. He has also been awarded the Golden Bulldog Award from the Watchdogs of the Treasury, the National Security Leadership Award from the American Security Council and was named Man of the Year by the Korean Veterans Association.

In 2004, Scott decided to come home to Colorado to spend more time with his family and return to the private sector. He joined Hogan & Hartson, a prestigious international law firm with offices in Colorado.

Scott and his wife Lori have three grown children and make their home in Grand Junction.

THE MEN WHO MURDERED KELSEY GRAMMER'S SISTER

ON WEDNESDAY I'LL BE JOINED BY FORMER PROSECUTOR BOB RUSSELL (he also prosecuted Ted Bundy) AND LOU SMIT (retired homicide detective in Jonbenet Ramsey and Robert Browne cases)to talk about the upcoming hearing for the men convicted of killing Karen Grammer. Kelsey will be in town next week to testify against their release from the state prison in Limon. Here is background from a Parade Magazine article.

The Death of Karen Grammer

In 1975, Kelsey Grammer’s younger sister, Karen, was raped, beaten and stabbed to death by a man named Freddie Glenn after a botched robbery in Colorado. Glenn is currently serving his sentence at the Bent County Correctional Facility in Las Animas, Colorado and is eligible for parole this year.

According to published reports, in 1975, Glenn and several other men attempted to rob a Red Lobster restaurant in Colorado Springs. They left without any money, but on the way out they grabbed Karen Grammer, 18, who worked at the restaurant, because they feared she could identify them.

After robbing a convenience store, the men took Grammer to Glenn's apartment, where they raped her repeatedly. She pleaded for her life and offered to do anything they wanted so she could live. After promising to take her home, the men sat her in the car, put a cloth over her head and eventually let her out in a mobile home park. But before they let her go, Glenn, who according to court testimony had taken LSD, stabbed her in the throat, back and hand. Grammer bled to death from her wounds.

Police didn't know her name for a week until her brother, Kelsey, reported her missing.

As Grammer told PARADE, his sister’s death was the catalyst that fueled his drug and alcohol addictions.

RANDALL AS ANNOUNCER AT FOOTBALL GAME

The Colorado Springs Flames Football Team was very kind to ask me to be the stadium announcer at a recent game. Their next game is Saturday August 1st at 7:00 p.m. at Harrison's Memorial Stadium on the east side of I-25 and Circle. The football team that i coach will do a 10 minute exhibition game at halftime. Stop by and enjoy a great football experience at a very reasonable price.
